Blog: Ecmanage secures its customers' data with a new tool

Reading time: 3 minutes

Why is privacy important and how does Ecmanage protect the personal data of its customers?

The route to work, with whom you communicate frequently, your (online) purchases. Often without our knowledge, a lot of information about us is recorded. Disclosure of information sometimes happens consciously, but in general you often unconsciously release information about yourself. This is all data that is then collected and can be linked to you, used and eventually sold to companies that benefit from it. A consequence of this development is that as many as 94% of our residents are concerned about the protection of their data.

Why companies should take action

Companies must properly secure the personal data they process to guarantee the privacy of their customers. According to the Algemene verordening gegevensbescherming (AVG) organizations must take appropriate technical and organizational measures to secure data. If an organization has not taken enough measures and a data breach occurs, the AVG can impose a fine.

Our qualification

Because we have been processing personal and medical data for our customers for years, information security is a top priority for us. Since 2017 we meet the requirements of the very strict standards for information security: ISO27001 and NEN7510. The ISO is a globally recognized standard in the field of information security, the NEN is a standard developed by the Netherlands Standardization Institute for information security in the healthcare sector in the Netherlands.

How do we protect your data?

In addition to certifications, there are many demonstrable actions that we apply to guarantee the privacy of our users. What you often see is logging in using a QR code. We expect to launch our new Ecmanage app in Q4 of the calendar year 2022, where users will be able to log in via a QR scan or enter a customer code. This makes logging in even more personal. Logging in with a personal QR is something you see in various sectors, such as within financial services, where safeguarding personal data is also very important.

Log in from another location

A new addition to our security system is that you will be notified when we see a new login from a new location/IP address. An IP address is a unique code assigned to any device connected to a computer network or the Internet. Just like how individuals and businesses need an address to send and receive their mail, internet devices need a digital address to send and receive data.

What happens then?

When we receive that you have logged in from a different location, you will receive an email with the message: “We noticed that there was a new login for Ecmanage from a new location”. The recipient of the mail also gets to see via which portal this takes place, the IP address, date and time. If it turns out that you were not the one who logged in, we advise you to change your password as soon as possible.
