Managing user accounts can be time-consuming and error-prone, especially if your organization is growing or has many changes. Fortunately, there is SCIM: a smart, secure and standardized way to automate user management. In this blog, we explain what SCIM is, how it works within Ecmanage, and what it gives you as a customer.
SCIM stands for System for Cross-domain Identity Management. It is a standard that allows user data to be automatically synchronized between different systems. Instead of manually adding or deleting users, SCIM ensures that this data is automatically updated.
With SCIM, you save time, prevent errors and keep a grip on who has access to which systems and with which permissions.
Without SCIM, user data often has to be managed manually. Think of new employees that need to be added, colleagues changing positions or leaving employment. These types of changes take time and can easily lead to errors.
SCIM solves this problem by automating the management of user data. As soon as a change is made in the source system, such as when someone leaves employment, the change is automatically made in Ecmanage. This immediately updates access and ensures that only the right people have access to the system.
Ecmanage recently started offering the SCIM option as part of the Single Sign On (SSO) module. This makes it possible to have user data automatically synchronized from the source system. The module ensures that users:
Combined with Single Sign-On (SSO), employees can securely log in with one account for all their applications. Users and permissions are automatically merged, providing added convenience and security. SCIM also contributes to privacy compliance, with control over data and automatic deletion. An effective process that is smart, secure and efficient.
Ecmanage’s SCIM module can be interfaced with various source systems. This connection with the Ecmanage KMS creates automatic synchronization of user data. Consider systems such as Microsoft Entra ID, Okta and Azure. As soon as an employee is added in the source system, it is automatically synchronized in the Ecmanage KMS. The function, packages and permissions are also automatically included. This prevents errors, eliminates double entry and saves time on manual work. Thus, data in both systems are always up to date.
The SCIM module ensures secure and structured data transfer between the source system and the Ecmanage KMS, fully in line with privacy legislation and information security standards of ISO 27001. As a result, sensitive information is well protected and user data management is efficient and reliable.
Using SCIM in combination with Ecmanage offers many advantages for your organization. You save time because there is no more duplication or manual input; all data is automatically synchronized. This results in fewer errors, because the chance of wrong data or forgotten adjustments is greatly reduced. In addition, you always keep more control, with an up-to-date overview of who has access to the system. Security is enhanced because access is immediately revoked as soon as someone leaves service, keeping sensitive information better protected. In addition, SCIM is scalable and suitable for both small and large organizations with many mutations. In short, SCIM makes your user management smarter, faster and more secure.
Where previously you had to manually enter data or periodically import CSV files, SCIM does this fully automatically. It not only saves time, but also reduces the chance of human error.
With SCIM, changes are real-time and consistent, which you can hardly guarantee with manual management.
